Network streamer and server for Hugo 2
Chord 2go is a music streamer and server that fixes to the Chord Hugo 2 and adds Ethernet and wireless streaming, plus playback from two microSD cards of up to 4 TB in total. It measures 50 × 100 × 21 mm and weighs 159 g, with a solid CNC-machined aluminium chassis.
The 2go does not work on its own: to operate as a full streamer it requires a connection to a Hugo 2 (DAC, preamplifier and headphone amplifier) or to the Chord 2yu digital interface. It joins the unit through a docking and locking mechanism, for which two locating screws and an Allen key are included. With the Hugo 2, once the batteries are charged, every form of digital playback can run without external power supplies.
Connections and services
The wireless connections, long-range 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1 A2DP, are joined by a Gigabit Ethernet socket which, according to the manufacturer, works without any set-up. Wi-Fi joins an existing network or runs in hotspot mode, activated from the Gofigure app: in that case the 2go broadcasts its own network.
The 2go is Roon Ready, DLNA-compliant as both server and renderer and AirPlay-ready; among the sources the page also names Tidal, Qobuz and internet radio. All audio interfaces are always on and switching is automatic: to move from one input to another it is enough to start playback from the chosen control app.
Formats, storage and battery
Format support runs from 44.1 kHz PCM up to 768 kHz, 16 to 32 bit, and from DSD64 to DSD256 as DoP, with bit-perfect and gapless playback. Among the file types the source lists WAV, FLAC, AIFF, OGG Vorbis, ALAC, WMA and MP3. Processing is handled by a triple-core audio processor.
The two slots take microSD cards of 2 TB each and turn the Hugo 2 into an MPD-based music server. The internal battery gives about 10 hours of playback; inserting the Micro-USB charging cable activates desktop mode. Initial set-up and updates go through the free Gofigure app, for iOS and Android.
