D/A converter and headphone amplifier
The Cambridge Audio DacMagic 200M is a digital-to-analogue converter with a built-in headphone amplifier, designed to improve the sound of any digital source: computer, phone, CD player or streamer. It delivers more detail, more depth and more clarity with high-resolution files and streaming services alike.
It is 215 mm wide, half the width of a traditional hi-fi component, and fits on a desk as easily as in a system. The analogue outputs, with fixed or variable level as preferred, allow it to feed an amplifier or to drive a power amplifier or active speakers directly.
Dual ESS Sabre DACs and high resolution
Conversion is handled by two ESS Sabre ES9028Q2M chips, one per channel: an arrangement that improves stereo separation and reduces crosstalk and distortion. Frequency response runs from 10 Hz to 50 kHz (±1 dB), with THD+N below 0.0005% and a signal-to-noise ratio above 115 dB (A-weighted).
Over USB the DacMagic 200M accepts PCM signals up to 24-bit/768 kHz and native DSD up to DSD512; the coaxial input reaches 192 kHz and the optical input 96 kHz. MQA decoding is complete (Core and Renderer), with front-panel indicators showing the format being played, and the digital filter offers three curves: Fast, Slow and Short Delay.
Inputs, outputs and Bluetooth
The digital inputs are coaxial, optical and USB; Bluetooth 4.2 with SBC and aptX codecs adds wireless listening from phones and tablets. The DacMagic 200M is Roon Tested.
Outputs are balanced XLR sockets, with a maximum level of 4.2 V rms, and unbalanced RCA sockets, with 2.1 V rms. The 6.3 mm headphone output delivers more than 300 mW into 32 ohms and more than 65 mW into 150 ohms, and suits headphones with an impedance from 10 to 600 ohms.
Dimensions and finish
The DacMagic 200M measures 215 x 52 x 191 mm (width, height, depth) and weighs 1.2 kg; maximum power consumption is 12 W.
The finish is Lunar Grey, matching the other half-width Cambridge Audio components.
