A compact passive sub for cinema cabinetry
CT SW10 uses a 250 mm driver and requires external amplification.
The single Bowers & Wilkins CT SW10 subwoofer can sit within cinema cabinetry or on the floor. Its sealed cabinet is 360 × 340 × 260 mm, becoming 290 mm deep with the grille. It has no built-in amplifier. The specified external partner is CDA-2HD, so allow for that amplifier, its speaker cable and access to the subwoofer connections.
Key features
- Cabinet 360 × 340 × 260 mm.
- 250 mm paper/Aramid Fibre driver; sealed cabinet.
- 1000 W power handling into 8 ohms; external CDA-2HD amplifier.
- Binding posts and Neutrik Speakon; magnetic grille; depth with grille 290 mm.
The smallest CT SW
Its 250 mm paper and Aramid Fibre driver uses a rigid diaphragm construction. Compared with the 300 mm CT SW12, this cabinet takes less height and width while retaining the same 260 mm enclosure depth. The lower -6 dB point is 18 Hz and +3 dB response begins at 26 Hz. The upper cut-off is adjustable in system amplification.
Connections and positioning
Power handling is 1000 W into 8 ohms. Binding posts and a Neutrik Speakon socket are on the rear, while the cloth grille attaches magnetically. Rubber feet and spikes cater for cabinet or floor placement. Net weight is 15 kg. Plan a firm support to control cabinet vibration, as well as position relative to the front speakers and external CDA-2HD.
The Speakon socket provides a secure connection where the cabinet will be difficult to reach after fitting. Cable and amplifier planning belong to the whole system: a passive sub needs power amplification, not merely a line-level LFE feed. With two subs in stereo, positions near the corresponding front speakers can help preserve low-frequency separation. Check the supporting shelf before finalising the opening.
