PowerQuest 505: a rack-mount mains filter with Ultra-Linear outlets
The PowerQuest 505 is a rack-mountable mains filter with surge protection for audio and video systems. Compared with the linear-filter models it adopts Ultra-Linear filtered outlets for sources and a higher-grade detachable power cable, the PQ-715. The version offered here is the European one, with Schuko sockets and plug.
Outlets and Ultra-Linear filtering
The outlets are split into two groups. The high-current ones are meant for power amplifiers, AV receivers, soundbars and subwoofers. The Ultra-Linear filtered ones feed audio and video sources, computers, modems and routers. Ultra-Linear noise dissipation holds the reduction of disturbances constant, giving a quieter background and a sound richer in detail.
Surge protection
Protection is non-sacrificial: it stands up to repeated surges unharmed and has no parts that are used up along the way. If mains voltage exceeds the safe level, the extreme-voltage shutdown opens the main circuit relay in under 0.25 seconds, and the supply comes back by itself once the mains returns to safe values.
PQ-715 cable and mounting
The 2-metre PQ-715 detachable cable has conductors made of Semi-Solid Long-Grain Copper, whose compacted strands do not shift inside the bundle: this lowers the distortion caused by interaction between wires, and the long grain of the copper limits the distortion arising at grain boundaries. Direction-Controlled conductors drain induced noise away from sensitive circuits. In addition, ZERO-Tech allows current to flow without compression and gives linearised noise dissipation, while RF/ND-Tech cancels induced radio-frequency noise. The flat wall plug eases placement in tight spaces; 2U rack ears are supplied.
