Pearl 18 Long Distance: an active 18 Gbps HDMI cable for runs up to 15 metres
Pearl 18 Long Distance is an active HDMI cable made for installations where source and display sit far apart: a ceiling projector, a television on another wall, a separate equipment cabinet. It holds its 18 Gbps bandwidth over runs reaching 15 metres.
18 Gbps is enough for video up to 8K at 30 frames per second, for HDR high dynamic range pictures and for the eARC channel. The cable also includes the HDMI Ethernet channel, which brings video, audio and data together in one connection.
Conductors and insulation
The conductors are solid-core Long-Grain Copper. Insulation is foamed polyethylene, an air-rich material that limits signal attenuation. All 19 conductors in the cable, namely those for the A/V and eARC signals, the ground-reference drains and the control and power wires, are laid in one specific direction so that radio-frequency noise is drained off efficiently. Noise-Dissipation is rated Level 1.
Active equalization
A passive cable is not enough over these distances. Pearl 18 Long Distance uses an active frequency equalization circuit that makes up for losses along the run and keeps the full 18 Gbps available even at the longest length.
Audio return channel
The audio return channel carries sound from the television to the soundbar or A/V receiver through the same HDMI cable, with no extra connections.
