RCA or XLR subwoofer cable with 5% silver-plated conductors, Triple-Balanced geometry and 72 V DBS
Husky links amplifiers, AV receivers and soundbars to an active subwoofer. It is a single cable, offered with either RCA or XLR plugs, in seven lengths from 2 to 20 metres.
The design works on conductors, insulation and control of high-frequency noise, aiming at well-defined bass that stays out of the remaining spectrum and at more intelligible dialogue.
Conductors and geometry
The conductors are solid copper with 5% silver plating. Solid wire removes the distortion caused by interaction between strands. Silver plating, which can sound harsh on a full-range cable, improves articulation and intelligibility at subwoofer frequencies and helps dissipate high-frequency noise.
Triple-Balanced geometry employs three conductors: one for positive, one for negative and a separate one as ground reference. The shield never carries the signal, and the two poles travel along paths of equal quality. The conductors are also Direction-Controlled, that is, oriented so induced noise drains away in the correct direction.
Insulation, DBS and noise reduction
Polyethylene Air-Tube insulation surrounds the wire mainly with air, which takes up almost no energy: this reduces the blurring typical of other insulating materials. The patented 72 V DBS (Dielectric-Bias System) sets up an electrostatic field that polarises the dielectric and raises its efficiency at high frequencies; an RF Trap stops the DBS circuit from inducing radio-frequency noise of its own. The multi-layer Noise-Dissipation shield, built with carbon-based materials, limits the RF noise reaching active circuits.
Terminations and lengths
The RCA version suits subwoofers and electronics with single-ended inputs and outputs, the most widespread arrangement. The XLR version, carrying one mono XLR connector per end, is intended for equipment fitted with a balanced connection. In both cases the plugs are pure red copper with Hanging-Silver plating, joined to the cable by cold welding. Lengths: 2 m, 3 m, 5 m, 8 m, 12 m, 16 m and 20 m.
