Turntable cable in Perfect-Surface Copper, with 5-pin DIN or RCA output
Golden Gate Tonearm is the cable that takes the turntable signal to the phono input of an amplifier or preamplifier. It is one 1.5 m cable carrying both channels, offered in two terminations to match the tonearm output.
A cartridge signal is among the weakest in a system: for this reason the design focuses on conductor quality and on the handling of radio-frequency noise.
Conductors
The conductors are solid Perfect-Surface Copper (PSC): high-purity copper with low oxide content, whose surface is protected through each stage of drawing and manufacture so it stays smooth and soft. Solid wire avoids the electrical and magnetic effects that strands have on each other, one of the main sources of distortion in conventional cables.
The conductors are Direction-Controlled. Every drawn wire has a directional grain structure: orientation is chosen so noise drains away from the point where it would produce distortion. Where provided, arrows on the plugs show the direction of connection.
Insulation and noise reduction
The foamed polyethylene insulation holds a lot of air and therefore takes up little energy, limiting what is handed back late as distortion. The Metal-Layer Noise-Dissipation shield absorbs and reflects a large part of RF disturbances ahead of the layer tied to ground, keeping them from altering the ground reference of the equipment.
Terminations and lengths
The 5-Pin DIN (JIS) > RCA version is for tonearms with a five-pin DIN socket at the base; the RCA > RCA version is for turntables that already have two RCA outputs on the chassis. On both, the plugs are gold-plated and cold-welded, with no solder. Length: 1.5 m.
