RCA subwoofer cable with 1.25% silver-plated conductors and Double-Balanced geometry
Boxer is a signal cable for active subwoofers, to be plugged into the dedicated output of amplifiers and receivers. It is a single cable with RCA plugs, on sale in seven lengths from 2 to 20 metres.
Compared with the entry models of the family it raises the amount of silver on the conductors, moves to insulation based on air tubes and adopts a three-layer shield with carbon-loaded materials.
Conductors and geometry
The conductors are solid copper with 1.25% silver plating. Solid wire removes the distortion that comes from interaction between strands; the silver plating, applied to a subwoofer cable, favours articulation and intelligibility in the bass register.
Double-Balanced geometry is conceived for single-ended connections. Many cables of this kind hand both ground and shield to the same path: here the two functions are kept apart, and ground has a conductor of its own with lower impedance. The outcome is a cleaner and quieter link.
Insulation and noise reduction
Both conductors are insulated with Polyethylene Air-Tube: polyethylene tubes in which the wire is surrounded mostly by air. Air takes up almost no energy, so less of it is stored by the insulation and handed back as distortion; the tubes also help keep the geometry stable. The three-layer Noise-Dissipation shield alternates metal with carbon-loaded synthetics, which absorb and reflect a large part of RF and EMI disturbances ahead of the layer tied to ground.
Terminations and lengths
The RCA plugs are pure red copper with direct Hanging-Silver plating, fixed to the cable by cold welding. The available lengths are 2 m, 3 m, 5 m, 8 m, 12 m, 16 m and 20 m.
