A modular player for changing both DAC and amplification
Astell&Kern A&futura SE180 separates the player body from its audio module, allowing the DAC, amplifier and connections to be replaced as one assembly without changing the entire DAP.
The standard configuration uses the SEM1 module with an ESS ES9038PRO DAC. Its dual-lock mechanism then accepts alternative modules such as SEM2, each with its own conversion stage, output circuit and technical character. It is the model in the range for users who want to explore different audio architectures on the same player.
Key features
- Interchangeable All-in-One audio module architecture.
- Standard SEM1 module with ESS ES9038PRO DAC.
- 2.5 mm, 3.5 mm and 4.4 mm outputs on the module.
- Up to 6 Vrms from the SEM1 balanced output.
- 5-inch Full HD display.
- 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX HD and LDAC.
- TERATON ALPHA and new-generation amplification technology.
- Optional modules with different DACs and output characteristics.
The module is a complete audio section
SE180 does not simply replace the converter. Each module contains its DAC, amplifier and headphone outputs, while the main body handles interface, storage, networking and power. Physical separation also helps isolate the audio section from noise generated by the player's main digital circuits.
SEM1 as standard, SEM2 for a different approach
The supplied module uses ES9038PRO and supports PCM up to 32-bit/384 kHz and DSD256. SEM2 switches to a pair of AK4497EQ DACs, raises support to 32-bit/768 kHz and DSD512, and retains all three headphone outputs. This replaceable audio section is what separates SE180 from SP3000M and other fixed-circuit DAPs.
For users who want the player to evolve
SE180 suits listeners with several headphones or those who want to compare different conversion approaches without duplicating the display, battery and control platform. It does not offer KANN ULTRA's extreme output or the newest A&ultima architecture, but its hardware modularity remains distinctive.
