The flagship Radia floorstander: 165 mm drivers and response down to 30 Hz
Arcam R45 is the flagship Radia floorstanding speaker, with three 165 mm MCC woofers, a 165 mm DCC midrange and a 25 mm DCC tweeter.
R45 is the largest and highest-performing loudspeaker in the Radia range and is intended for larger rooms where greater output, scale and low-frequency depth are required. It is sold individually: a stereo pair requires two units, each weighing 39.7 kg net, with a cabinet substantially larger than R35.
Key features
- Sold individually.
- Three 165 mm Micro Ceramic Composite (MCC) woofers.
- 165 mm Deep Ceramic Composite (DCC) midrange.
- 25 mm DCC tweeter with Acoustic Lens waveguide.
- 3-way crossover at 275 Hz and 1.7 kHz.
- Bass reflex with dual rear-mounted ports.
- 30 Hz-40 kHz response and 88 dB sensitivity.
- Recommended power of 20-250 W and terminals for bi-wiring.
Greater radiating area for larger rooms
R45 uses three 165 mm woofers and a midrange of the same diameter, substantially increasing radiating area over the 130 mm drivers in R35. Rated response reaches 30 Hz, sensitivity rises to 88 dB and the speaker is better equipped to reproduce music and film soundtracks on a larger scale.
Larger MCC and DCC drivers
The woofers use Micro Ceramic Composite (MCC), a stiff and damped material dedicated to low-frequency duties, while the 165 mm midrange uses Deep Ceramic Composite (DCC). The larger central driver allows R45 to retain physical scale with the woofers while working over its own dedicated frequency band.
Acoustic Lens and treble
The 25 mm tweeter uses a DCC dome mounted in the acoustic lens with waveguide. This geometry controls dispersion and phase and helps the tweeter integrate with the 165 mm midrange, maintaining a wide soundstage and even response away from the exact on-axis position.
Crossover and deeper tuning
Crossover points of 275 Hz and 1.7 kHz are lower than those of R35 and reflect the use of larger 165 mm drivers. Dual rear bass-reflex ports contribute to response down to 30 Hz, making R45 better suited where deep extension is expected directly from the main loudspeakers.
Flagship cabinet
The Black Natural Walnut cabinet is internally braced and uses cast frames, inverted surrounds and concealed fixings. A magnetic grille keeps the front visually clean and solid aluminium feet with optional spikes are sized for a loudspeaker weighing more than 39 kg per unit.
Dimensions and system role
Arcam specifies 358 x 1,127 x 415 mm and a 39.7 kg net weight for each loudspeaker. R45 is a natural partner for SA45 and represents the Radia choice for larger rooms, while R35 remains the more compact option where space and cabinet size carry greater weight in the system design.
