Denon stereo becomes connected without losing phono playback
The PMA-900HNE combines 50W per channel, HEOS, digital inputs and MM/MC phono in a stereo amplifier designed for everyday use.
Within the PMA range this is the connectivity step. Compared with the PMA-600NE it adds network streaming, AirPlay 2, music services through HEOS and MC cartridge compatibility. Output rises only moderately from 45W to 50W into 8 ohms, so the important change concerns function rather than muscle. It can anchor a system combining vinyl, TV, network files and multi-room listening.
Key features
- 50W per channel into 8 ohms and 85W into 4 ohms
- HEOS with Wi-Fi, Ethernet, AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth
- Phono stage compatible with MM and MC cartridges
- Optical and coaxial inputs with digital conversion
- Subwoofer output and control through the HEOS application
Role in the system
HEOS brings together online services, internet radio, NAS libraries and compatible products, and can distribute music to other zones. Digital inputs accept a television, although there is no HDMI, so the TV connects through optical output. Source Direct bypasses tone controls when a more direct path is preferred.
Listeners prioritising power and USB conversion from a computer should move to the PMA-1700NE, which omits integrated streaming but provides 70W, USB-B and a more ambitious output stage. The PMA-900HNE remains the family's most practical connected one-box choice.
The HEOS app handles source choice, supported services and room grouping, while a conventional remote remains available. Wired networking is useful where Wi-Fi is crowded or the system is close to the router. The amplifier can therefore operate conventionally or become the household's single access point for digital music.
The MC phono stage is its clearest analogue advantage over the 600NE, accepting low-output cartridges without another component. Network audio and vinyl can therefore coexist in one integrated amplifier, while the subwoofer output leaves room for extending bass response.
