Design innovation
Rega Aethos is a dual-mono integrated amplifier delivering 125 W per channel into 8 ohms, with discrete Class A preamplification and a robust high-current output stage.
Aethos was created as an uncompromising integrated amplifier, with the aim of keeping the signal path simple and stable even with demanding loudspeakers. The chassis was designed specifically for this model and houses a dual-mono architecture powered by a custom toroidal transformer. The preamplifier section uses discrete Class A circuitry, while each channel uses four 160 W Sanken output transistors to deliver 125 W into 8 ohms and 156 W into 6 ohms.

Dual-mono circuitry
The internal structure carefully separates the two channels and uses regulated supplies for the driver stages and the more sensitive amplification stages. The design employs discrete FET transistors in the line section, polypropylene capacitors along the signal path and K-Power reservoir capacitors in the power supply. The high-current output uses four Sanken transistors per channel, a configuration chosen to retain control and delivery capability even when the loudspeaker load becomes more difficult.
Connections and integration
The five line inputs allow several analogue sources to be connected, while the Direct input can bypass part of the control section and makes Aethos easier to integrate into more complex systems. The pre-out supports external power amplifiers or bi-amplified configurations, while record out provides a dedicated output for recording devices. The headphone output is integrated through the output mute relay, avoiding additional permanent switching elements in the main signal path.
Power supply and construction
The custom-wound toroidal transformer separately feeds the more sensitive sections, with particular attention to reducing noise and maintaining voltage stability. Mechanical construction uses an enclosure developed specifically for Aethos and an internal layout designed to limit interference between power supply, preamplification and output stage. The overall design favours a short signal path and thermal management suited to the available power.
Supplied accessories
A remote control is included for operating the amplifier's main functions.
