monitor-audio-ics-8
Monitor Audio ICS-8

Monitor Audio ICS-8: concealed in-ceiling subwoofer

The ICS-8 is a built-in subwoofer developed mainly to complete the Monitor Audio CF230 speakers: it is installed in ceiling and wall cavities or under floors and covers the range from 40 to 120 Hz. The 20 cm long-throw driver, with a C-CAM cone, is mounted at an angle inside a rigid 15 mm MDF cabinet, so as to lower its height, and works in a bandpass arrangement. In the room only a small opening with a flush grille remains visible, round or square, identical in look to that of the CF230.

It is used mainly during construction, or where access is possible, for example from a basement, and it needs joists with enough depth and spacing. Installation relies on the CFB3-R (round) and CFB3-SQ (square) pre-construction kits, which let the plaster be skimmed right up to the edge of the opening. One ICS-8 is matched with a maximum of eight CF230 and must be fed by a single mono amplifier channel.

Technical features

Driver: 20 cm long-throw woofer with C-CAM cone

Frequency response: 40 Hz to 120 Hz (-6 dB)

Sensitivity 85 dB; nominal impedance 8 Ohm

Power handling 150 W; recommended amplifier 150 W

Recommended filter: 120 Hz low-pass, 12-24 dB per octave

Maximum sound pressure: 107 dB

Cut-out: 120 mm

Cabinet size in mm: 396 x 280 x 235; vent 427 mm long, 75 mm in diameter

Weight: 10.2 kg

Available versions

Sold as a single unit.
